PROGRAM OVERVIEW IN “THEIR WORDS”

Students interested in pursuing a course of study in music, theatre and dance may choose from two possible curricula:  the Dance/Theatre Double Major or the Music/Theatre Double Major. Students will major in two outstanding arts departments and will have access to courses and activities in a third. These highly rigorous curricula help prepare students for the special challenges of musical theatre performance.

Scholarships

Iowa Center for the Arts Scholarship

  • Based on artistic potential in one or more areas of theatre, as well as academic and artistic achievement.
  • Award: Full in-state tuition for the first year of study awarded to up to three new traditional first-year students.

Tanna Frederick Scholarship (Possible but not confirmed at this time)

  • Award: $5,000
  • The Tanna Frederick Scholarship supports an incoming Theatre Arts major who shows artistic potential in one or more areas of theatre, as well as academic and artistic achievement.
  • All students applying for the Iowa Center for the Arts Scholarship will be considered for this award. No further application is required.

Hatch Billops Scholarship

  • Based on artistic potential in one or more areas of theatre, as well as academic and artistic achievement.
  • Award: Up to $1,500
  • The scholarship is open to incoming first year or transfer students of African American or Caribbean descent with preference for a descendant of the Middle Passage who was born in the United States or the Caribbean.

Dorothy Wirtz Scholarships

  • The Dorothy Wirtz Scholarships are four-year, renewable awards set at $2,000 for Iowa residents and $4,000 for non-resident students.
  • They are awarded to students demonstrating exceptional promise in Theatre Arts.

There are about 185 undergraduate majors, 50 graduate students and 70 minors
