PROGRAM OVERVIEW IN “THEIR WORDS”

Designed to prepare future actor-singers for the professional theatre this interdisciplinary program focuses on developing the skills and professionalism required by a career in the theatre. The program will attract students who are willing to commit to structured, intensive, studio-based training and are searching for to become a part of a company of actors, singers, dancers and designers.

The program embraces the richness and diversity of this challenging art form, which includes musical comedy, the musical play, new and alternative music theatre, “Broadway opera,” cabaret and revue. Students receive technique training in acting complemented by training in vocal technique, musicianship, dance, and the study of the repertoire of the musical theatre in print and recordings, as well as in rehearsal and performance.

  • Dance not included in time limit

  • From Musical Theatre Repertory and one from Classical Musical Theatre canon, pre-1960
  • Accompanist provided on-campus
  • If you are auditioning at one of the off campus sites, please bring accompaniment on an mp3 player or cell phone

Monologue

  • One monologue from published play
  • Under 1 minute

Dance

  • Be prepared to take part in a dance audition, wear appropriate clothing, or bring clothing to change into, including jazz or character shoes and tap shoes, if you tap

FRESHMAN PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES

Musical Theatre majors audition for all mainstage productions, not just musicals. Additional performance opportunities exist in studio workshops, Opera Workshop, Second Stage Productions, Student Cabarets, Dance Company and other vocal ensembles.

OUTSIDE PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES

CCU Theatre has a working relationship with Atlantic Stage and students are often cast alongside working Equity actors.
