With integrated studies in music, dance, and theatre, the bachelor of fine arts in musical theatre offers the best combination of theoretical foundation courses with practical performance opportunities. Students in the BFA program will combine exceptional training with a selected core of liberal arts courses designed to add historical context and insight into their creative choices. Our curriculum also includes frequent opportunities to view professional productions in Chicago, Madison, or Milwaukee as well as an optional semester of study at Regents College in London. The bachelor of fine arts in musical theatre is ideally suited for students whose goal is to pursue a professional performance career.

If you plan to attend the Chicago Unified Auditions (Feb. 5-8) and can arrive 2 or 3 days earlier, we will pick you up in Chicago, bring you to Rockford for our audition on Feb. 3, and take you back to Chicago.
The Performing Arts Department recommends Scholarships based on talent and potential. Awards are computed as a part of the student’s overall aid package. Prospective students must apply to the university before September 1, 2017, and audition on or before October 15, 2017 to be considered for a Performing Arts Scholarship.
Performing Arts Scholarship
The Performing Arts department recommends awards of up to $10,000 (over 4 years) based on talent and potential. Awards are computed as a part of the student’s overall aid package. Prospective students must apply to the university and audition on or before February 10 to be considered for a Performing Arts Scholarship.
Hognander Endowed Scholarship
Gertrude Lund Hognander Scholarship for Leadership in Music and the Performing Arts, established in 2004, is named for Alumna Gertrude Lund Hognander, Class of 1937, and provides funds for a full-time student of any year who participates in music or the performing arts programs at Rockford University, demonstrates personal initiative, leadership and teamwork, and is an engaged and positive contributor to one’s school, community and/or performing arts group.
Majors are required to audition for every main-stage production and are encouraged to audition for as many Three Penny and Artists’ Ensemble Theatre productions as their schedules will allow.
